27/5/2017 Sant’Antonio Abate – riapre Villa Cuomo, la villa rustica di epoca romana, nel giorno in cui fu scoperta dal dott. Carlo Cuomo nel 1974 e che la disseppellì con le sue risorse economiche guidato dagli esperti della Soprintendenza.
L’evento di inaugurazione è avvenuto grazie all’impegno eccezionale del sindaco Antonio Varone e dell’assessore Iolanda D’Antuono che hanno voluto fortemente ridare alla cittadinanza la possibilità di appropriarsi di questa sito archeologico e grazie all’autorizzazione del dott. Mario Cesarano (soprintendenza archeologica, belle arti e paesaggio dell’area Metropolitana di Napoli), che si è anche impegnato a formare i giovani del liceo a fare da guida ai visitatori.
All’iniziativa ha perso parte anche “Il quaderno edizioni” che per l’occasione ha presentato la ripubblicazione del diario di Carlo Cuomo che racconta l’intera vicenda della scoperta e descrive tutte le caratteristiche della Villa. Il testo, curato dal dott. Mario Cesarano, è una preziosa testimonianza di un’avventura eccezionale alla scoperta sorprendente di un mondo antico sepolto. Nel suo intervento il dott. Cesarano ringrazia tutti i volontari gli studenti e tutti coloro che hanno collaborato affinché dopo 43 anni questa villa potesse essere visitata in tutta la sua straordinaria bellezza e invita i cittadini a prendersene cura e a valorizzarla nel miglior modo possibile, con un senso di responsabilità collettivo. A concludere è la dott.ssa Stefania Spisto, presidente de “Il quaderno edizioni”‘che ringrazia il figlio dell’autore, il dott. Diego Cuomo, presente tra il pubblico, per aver autorizzato la pubblicazione dell’opera del padre e invita i cittadini a leggere il diario dello scopritore della villa perché a suo avviso, nessun libro di storia può insegnare tante cose ed entrare in empatia con il lettore come un opera letteraria, poiché è vero che conoscere le date e gli avvenimenti storici è fondamentale, ma quando questi hanno il valore di testimonianza allora l’impatto emozionale è ineguagliabile e raggiunge tutti.
